Hello there! I’m Tuomo. I’m a Finnish developer, designer, marketer and entrepreneur, and I’ve been building things for myself and other people for more than 20 years.
I started my professional career in sales in 2001 and started my first company in 2004. I’ve been working for myself ever since.
Over the years I’ve built companies, websites, online stores, software, marketing systems and all kinds of things in between. I’ve also made plenty of mistakes, changed direction more than once, and learned most things by doing them.
That’s probably the simplest way to describe how I work: I like figuring things out, building things, seeing what happens and then making them better.
A lot of different things, but usually connected
My career hasn’t followed one straight line.
I started in sales, moved into entrepreneurship, then into technology and building companies. I’ve been a CEO, system architect, developer, designer, marketer and consultant. I’ve built businesses from scratch, grown them, sold them, started again and spent years working directly with clients.
After building and scaling companies in the 2000s, I went freelance in 2012. I started by building websites for a handful of clients, then expanded into SEO, SEM, content, social media, email marketing and online sales.
That combination has stayed with me.
I enjoy the space between disciplines: figuring out what should be built, building it, getting it in front of people and finding out whether it works.
What I’m doing now
Today I work on my own through tuomo.co. I build websites, web applications, AI tools and online businesses for clients, and work on my own products and ideas alongside them.
For most of my career, client work came first. I created social media strategies, content, websites and marketing systems for other companies, while my own channels were the thing I got around to later.
Now I’m giving my own channels the same attention. I’m growing an audience from the very first follower, using everything I’ve learned over the past two decades. I call this first stretch season one: like the first season of a series, it’s where the story starts, and you can follow it as it happens.
YouTube is the main stage, with weekly videos about what I’m building, learning and testing. The same story continues on LinkedIn, Instagram, X, TikTok and my other channels, and every week it all comes together in The Field Report.
Some experiments will grow into something bigger and some will become lessons. I’ll share both.
Outside work
Work is a big part of my life, but it’s not all of it.
I’ve been to 62 countries and have lived in England, Spain, Thailand and Finland. I’m currently heading back on the road, with Albania as my base for the winter and more travel around Europe along the way.
I play guitar (electric and classical), I know bass, studied piano and singing, and I even released an EP with a heavy metal band in the late ’90s.
I like drawing, reading biographies and cooking. I also walk a lot, usually 10 kilometres a day.
A surprising amount of what I write starts there, on long walks. I take my phone with me, go for a walk and talk through whatever I’m thinking about. By the time I get back, I’ve usually got the beginnings of something worth writing down.
